LEE BYUNG-CHUL, THE FOUNDER OF THE SAMSUNG GROUP

  • Byung-chul was the son of a wealthy landowning family 
  • The company was based in Seoul by 1947
  • He used money his father had left him to establish a rice mill and after that venture failed he went on to start-up a trucking business in Daegu which he named the Samsung Trading Co.
  • Set his own goals to started his first business at age 26 in 1936 with his own beliefs that "the most patriotic thing a business man could do was to establish national wealth to lay the fundamental for a strong nations".
  • The principle of “man and talent first'' applied by Lee & spent 80 percent of his entire life in recruiting, training people and feels thankful and blissful that all his employees achieved good performances.
  • Pursuit of “saeobboguk’ or the creation of a stronger nation through business prosperity was actually based on the techniques of hiring and training of people and also improving productivity

  • Lee Byung-chu's business cleverness blended the strength of the American ways of managing business goals and targets and the Japanese method of focusing on working principles, ethics and disciplines

  • Lee emphasize the importance of responsibility since the days he operated the first company that grew and led to the successful of the Samsung business empire

  • He believed that the main responsibility for a company is to find ways to return its wealth to society and not to keeps its among the corporate.





                                    1) Samsung means "Three Stars" which explains the initial corporate logos.


2)  In the original logo, the three stars were prominent  - they no longer appear in the logo


3) Samsung's construction division built the worlds tallest building, the Burj Khalif

Michael Aldrich






Michael Aldrich


BACKGROUND
Michael was born on 22 August 1941

Place of Birth in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England.
In 1959, he went to school at Clapham College in London.
He won a scholarship to the University of Hull to study History.
He became engaged to Sandy Kay Hutchings, a student at Hull Art College.
In 1962, they married just prior to his graduation.
They have four children and are grandparents to eight grandchildren.
He died on 19 May 2014 at the age of 72 years.




THE CAREER BEGIN
Aldrich spent 15 years with Honeywell and Burroughs in the UK in various sales and marketing roles, where he became known as an innovator, before joining the Board of Redifon in 1977.
Aldrich invented online shopping by connecting a modified domestic TV to a real-time transaction processing computer via a domestic telephone line in 1979.
His concept of information technology as a mass communications medium is a driver for the contemporary IT industry.
His definition of the new mass communications medium as 'participative' was fundamentally different to the traditional definitions of mass communication and mass media and a precursor to the social networking on the Internet 25 years later.
In March 1980 he launched Redifon's Office Revolution.
In 1980 he invented a system he called the 'Teleputer' by connecting a modified 14-inch colour television to a plinth containing a Zilog Z80 microprocessor running a modified version of the CP/M operating system and a chip set containing a modem, character generator and auto-dialler.
Aldrich's systems directly changed the holiday, retail, auto, finance and credit ratings industries. Online shopping was an important development for electronic commerce. E-commerce changed the way the world does business. Both of his B2C systems in Gateshead and Bradford were shopping and information services.
The three areas of his work in consumer electronics—online shopping/Teleworking/Telebanking, Home Information Centres and broadband cable TV—and his book, papers and UK Government reports represent a significant contribution to the development of contemporary IT mass communications, consumer information and transaction systems, electronic commerce and e-business.
He was also an innovator in other areas of computer and information technology including large-scale data capture, mixed media scanning, minicomputer networking, voice response and handprint processing.
In 1984, he patented the world's first static signature recognition system.
He founded ROCC Computers in 1984 after a management buy-out of Rediffusion Computers.



PROFFESION
Michael Aldrich became a Fellow of the British Computer Society in 1984 and he was made a Chartered Fellow in 2004.
In 1986 he was invited to become a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute, the UK's elite management leadership organization.
He is an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.
In 1987 Michael Aldrich was made a Freeman of the City of London, England.
In 2002 he was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of Brighton for services to Information Technology.

WALTER ELIAS DISNEY
THE CAREER BEGIN
  • ·  The career as an animator began when Disney got his first job at Pesman-Rubin Commercial Art Studio as designer letterhead and advertisement.
  • ·  He start doing hand-drawn cel animation and experimenting how to opened the animation studio.
  •    After that, he moved to Kansas City and work with Kansas City Film Ad Company as a making an one-minute advertisement staff.   



·         From this company, Disney recruited Fred Harman as his first employee.
·         They start working together and make their first cartoon which they called Laugh-O-Grams.
·         The cartoon became popular after they make a deal with Kansas City Theater to screen their cartoon. 
·         In May of 1922, he decided to left his job and start his own producing after he confident he able to manage his own studio.

THE FIRST ANIMATION AND STUDIO
  • §  Without any capital money, Disney make his own studio with converted his house garage into a studio and borrowed  all the equipment for start the new animation studios.
  • §  He named this studio as Laugh-O-Grams  too. Disney hired a few workers including his brother, Roy as a manager and his friend, Ub Iwerks as an animator.
  • §  Their first cartoon under the Disney producing is seven-minutes fairy-tales which they called Alice in Cartoonland.




THE SPIRITUAL BETWEEN EACH OTHER
v  On 1923, Disney studio was force to declare bankruptcy after they were become burdened with debt.
v  Disney and his brother take a decision to pooled their money and moved to Los Angeles, Hollywood. Once again, Disney teamed up with his brother, Roy to start a new journey of their life.  With $500 that they borrowed from their uncle and a strongest helped from his brother, Disney began the new studio that they called as Disney Brother’s Studio.
v  There’s a few his employee that were come with her from Kansas City and followed him to the Hollywood like Ub Iwerks, Rudolf Ising and Hugh Harman.

THE NEW STARTER
ü  In Hollywood, Disney make a deal with Margaret Winkler, a New York Distributor to distribute their  cartoon, Alice in Cartoonland and their new cartoon created, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
ü  But unfortunately, Margaret Winkler and his husband has cheated Disney with stoled the cartoon of Oswald and copyright the character under their not but not under the Disney’s name.
ü   As the replacement cartoon of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, with the help from his brother, their wives and Ub Iwerks, Disney try to created the new cartoon.
ü   Finally, they succeed make the new cartoon that they called Mickey Mouse. The cartoon become very popular and once again, another distributor wanted to control the Mickey Mouse cartoons.
ü  Many Disney’s staff left including Ub Iwerks to work with another distributors, Pat Power when they were influenced with the large salary that the Pat’s wants to give.
MORE NEW ANIMATION WERE CREATED
o   Disney not give up but he cooperate with her brother, Roy to purchased their contract from Pat Power and fine another distributor and the Mickey Mouse cartoon became more popular after that with the sound and voice in the character of Mickey Mouse.
o    There’s a lot of cartoon that they created after that became popular also like Flower and Trees, Snow White and Pinnochio.

ACHIEVEMENT
Ø  In Disney lifetime, he got 22 awards of his animation.

Ø  Disney had a dream to have his own animation theme park. On July 17, 1955, the first Disneyland theme park was opened.
Ø  The theme park has all the cartoon characters that were build alive with the place look like exactly in the animation cartoons.
Ø   Disney planned to opened another theme park at Florida but he died on December 15, 1966 because of lung cancer when the park still under construction.
Ø  His brother, Roy pursue his planned and the park finally finish and opened in 1971 under the name of Walt Disney World.
This show how strongest their team oriented to make their dreams come true  













OPRAH GAIL WINFREY


BACKGROUND
  • ·  Oprah Gail Winfrey was growing up with her grandmother when her child after her parents decided to have a separation.
  • ·  Her first name is Orpah but it has a difficult pronounce that force the family members and friends changed her name from Orpah to Oprah.
  • · In 1960, Oprah moved and lived with her mother, Vernita home at Milwaukee,Wisconsin when she was 6 years old.
  •   Her life began changed and he turned into be a wild girl. She also had unmoral life-style and involved in drugs and suffered sexual abused by a number of male relatives and friends of her mother.
  • · All this situation happen because her mother was too exclude her and not give her a full attention,affection and love as a mother that make her life became miserable.

DETERMINATION TO CHANGED
  • · In 1968,her mother sent her to Nashville, Tennessee to lives with her father, Vernon that were work as a barber and businessman after she lost her premature baby who died after being born.
  •    Oprah father is an austere man. He put Oprah under the strict rules to taught her to be discipline and purposeful person.
  •    Since that, Oprah work hard to fixed her chaotic life to be more better and not be the same as before.


THE FIRST ACHIEVEMENT
  •  After having graduated in 1971 at East Nashville High School, she working for WVOL Radio in Nashville when she was 17.
  • During the next two years, Oprah becoming both the youngest and the first African-American female new anchor at WTVF-TV in Nashville.
  • She finally graduated with a degree of B.A in Speech and Performing Arts in 1976.


THE INVOLVEMENT

v  In 1984, after eight years hosted the tv chat show People Are Talking, she was chosen to host a local talk show that called "AM Chicago" at WLS-TV in Chicago.
v  The show became popular and record the highest rate in just several months. In Sepetember 1985, the name of this show were changed to "The Oprah Winfrey Show".


OPRAH SHOW
ü  In 11 years, this show collected 30 Daytime Emmy Awards throughout 1987-1998.


ü  Oprah also interested in acting and entertainment. She starred a few film like "Beloved" and "The Color Purple". She also created an on air-book club, printed media industry by publishing "O, The Oprah Magazine' and "O At Home".
ü  Oprah Winfrey actively involved in charity projects. She collect funds through her organizational and also conducting her scholars program.
ü  In 1998, Oprah received an Achievement Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and received a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2011.

THE SUCCESS IS WORTH
Ø  Oprah Gail Winfrey is a great example of entrepreneur that were full with determination and hard efforts to rise his life from poverty.
Ø  She knows that failure in an option but she choose to wake up and not give up to fixed his life untill she success in her life.
Ø  She prove that she also succeed to get out from terrible experiences in her past.
